Koffie
The music of KOFFIE can be summarized as a mixture of Afrobeat, jazz and 1970s funk. \“KOFFIE came about after Fela Kuti opened our ears\”, says drummer Abe van der Woude. Fela’s full sound and wonderful grooves were the kick for these boys to dive into Afrobeat.

The KOFFIE musicians recorded their first album in cooperation with vocalist Nassan Silva Lopes. The self-titled album was released in spring 2013, and was followed by an extensive tour.

While the first album still reflected their development and growth, the second album Eh Lady (release autumn 2013) has them sounding all grown up. The album was recorded in a studio in Berlin where such musical luminaries as afro-legend Ebo Taylor, Tony Allen (Fela Kuti’s drummer) and King Khan also recorded. An 8-track tape recorder gave KOFFIE the exact authentic sound they were looking for.

June 2015 saw the release of new single Afrotronic.

KOFFIE played many festivals, with highlights such as North Sea Jazz Festival, Zwarte Cross Festival, Oerol, Dunya and Roots Festival Amsterdam and shows in Belgium, Hungary and Switzerland.

\“Here stands a well-oiled machine who delivered a more up-tempo set than the preceding bands, along with more room for guitar- and keyboard-solos of a very high calibre.\” (3voor12 Amsterdam)
