Tristan Murail
Tristan Murail (born March 11, 1947 in Le Havre) is a French composer, associated with the "spectral" technique. After receiving degrees in Arabic language studies and in economics he studied composition at the Paris Conservatory under Oliver Messiaen (Premier Prix in composition). He taught computer music at the Paris Conservatoire and composition at IRCAM in Paris, in 1973 he was a founding member of the Ensemble L'Itinéraire. Since 1997 he has been a professor of composition at Columbia University in New York City.
